Welcome to Gaelic Psalm Singing
In October of 2003 with a lot of help and encouragement, a dream came to fruition when some of the best church precentors (those who lead the praise) as well as a large congregation, gathered together in a Presbyterian Church on the Isle of Lewis to take part in what we believe to be a unique musical form; unaccompanied, spontaneous, and totally unrehearsed Gaelic Psalm Singing; the roots of which can be traced back several generations.
This dream has culminated in three landmark CDs: Salm, Salm II and most recently Salm & Soul (recorded live at Celtic Connections). Find out more about each one (and buy them online) by clicking on the images below.
We hope that as a result of our efforts, Gaelic Psalm singing will now be given a real platform on the World Ethnomusicologist Stage. All to the glory of God!
Update
Since Oct 2003, when we embarked on this musical and spiritual adventure by launching this website a lot has happened, we have been enabled by God's grace to bring live Gaelic Psalm Singing, to such diverse places as Paris, Liverpool, Alabama, Glasgow, Yale University Connecticut, and Northern Ireland, as well as releasing two albums of great congregational singing and precenting, which have been sent throughout the world. These albums have raised the sum of £70k to date, and all the proceeds from the sales have been used towards helping to reach a target of £1M, which is the cost of a compulsory upgrading of the Bethesda Home and Hospice in Stornoway, to allow it to remain open.
It now gives us a great deal of pleasure to announce the release of our latest CD "Salm & Soul" which was recorded live at Glasgow Cathedral, Jan 2005, as part of the Celtic Connections Festival.
This CD is much more diverse than the previous two, with English Gospel singing, (as the title suggests) as well as some new Gaelic Psalm Singing tunes and precentors, there are also some additional bonus tracks which are dedicated to the memory of a dear friend Martyn Bennett who passed away shortly after our recording of this CD.
Martyn was a great supporter of this project and was present at the original recordings in Oct 2003.
We hope that you will enjoy our latest offering, as we sing praises to the Lord along with our brothers and sisters from Alabama.
